Mindfulness, essential for your workplace

Corporate mindfulness programs are being developed and implemented in some of Australia’s leading and global organisations. Think Google, Cadbury, NAB, ANZ and even the Department of Education. There are significant benefits of integrating mindfulness practices in the workplace.

Mindfulness is the ability to calmly acknowledge things as they really are being truly aware by paying attention to whatever is happening around you and within you. It involves bringing an attitude of curiosity, acceptance and friendliness to whatever is experienced, rather than habitual patterns of judgment and criticism.

So to integrate mindfulness in the workplace there are a few simple things you can do every day.

  1. When arriving at work take a few moments to become aware of your work environment and the task ahead. Be aware of any upcoming thoughts and be willing to acknowledge them and let them go if needed.
  2. Communicate with attention and respect. Be mindful of your tone, use of language and the intend of your message
  3. Be aware of your body language. 80% of communication is relayed through body language, only 20% through words
  4. Show respect for your co-workers by active listening and acknowledging their thoughts and ideas even if you do not agree.
  5. In those moments of stress ensure you break that moment by taking a time out. Think about going for a walk, stand up and shake it out. Try an action that will change your perspective of the stressful moment.
  6. Operate in the moment. You can only learn from the past and the future is unknown.

We have a mindfulness workshop coming up where we help you wake up the inner workings of your mental, emotional, physical process and general wellbeing. This workshop leads into an 8 week course which will commence early 2019. This course aims to give participants the techniques and awareness to make mindfulness an ongoing part of their lives, improving their work, study and relationships.
